Instructor

Hsin-Ta Chiao

Direction of Development and Feature

Hsin-Ta Chiao received his Ph.D. degree from Dept. of computer science, National Chiao Tung University, 2003. His main research areas during the period of graduate school were cloud and distributed computing systems. He joined the CCL (Computer and Communications Research Laboratory) of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), 2004 and devoted to the research field of digital interactive TV. From 2007 to 2009, he led a research team for developing European mobile TV systems and also joined the international standardization activities in DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting). From 2010 to 2013, he joined an integrated research project for developing high-speed rail mobile WiMAX system and led a sub-project for multimedia communication research over high-speed rail. In this period, he was focused on using AL-FEC (Application Layer Forward Error Correction) codes to provide a reliable multimedia communication system over error-prone high-speed rail WiMAX networks as well as the large-scale Wi-Fi multicast networks inside a high-speed train. In 2017, after he joined the Department of Computer Science, Tunghai University, he also cooperated with ITRI to develop a traffic evaluation software system for the high-speed rail LTE network of Chunghwa Telecom.

In 2018, he cooperated with the Penghu County Government to develop an AR mobile application called Love to play in Penghu for O2O (Online to offline) digital marketing. In 2020, he cooperated with the Tongxiao Town Office to develop another AR mobile application called Tongxiao on e-click for supporting a digital distinct infrastructure in the Tongxiao Baishatun area.

Finally, in recent years, he also cooperated with his academic and industrial partners to lead or join research projects for machine learning or data mining in various application fields such as air pollution, tourism, medical and manufacturing industries.
